Today I want to talk about a question I get asked frequently and that is a big concern for a lot of women I work with. Wrinkly clothes! But hey, I know that finding the time to care for your clothes can be challenging, especially when you have a super busy life. If you’re like me, ironing your clothes is low on the priority list. However, wrinkles can easily undermine your polished look, making you appear less put-together.
So how do we achieve that without spending hours ironing clothes? Well guess what! I have some tips and tricks for you today that hopefully will help you with this problem. By choosing the right fabrics and following some simple care tips, you can ensure your clothes stay crisp and professional, even on the go!
Let’s start with the basics, some fabric are more prone to wrinkles than others… linen I’m talking about you! Side note, linen is ok to be worn wrinkly… it’s supposed to be! But let’s explore some fabrics that are more resistant to wrinkles.
Polyester is a synthetic fabric known for its durability and resistance to wrinkles. It’s a versatile fabric often blended with natural fibers like cotton to enhance its properties. Polyester retains its shape well, making it an excellent choice for travel and long workdays. However it is warmer than other fabrics since it is a synthetic fiber and is less breathable than cotton or linen for example.
Wool is a natural fiber that resists wrinkles naturally due to its elasticity. It bounces back to its original shape after being stretched, which helps it stay smooth throughout the day. Wool blends, particularly those combined with synthetic fibers, are even more wrinkle-resistant and easier to care for.
Spandex/Elastane Often found in blends, spandex (or elastane) adds stretch and resilience to fabrics. Clothes with a small percentage of spandex retain their shape and resist wrinkles, providing comfort and a polished look.
Nylon is another synthetic fabric known for its strength and wrinkle resistance. It dries quickly and maintains its shape, making it ideal for travel and active work environments.
Tencel/Lyocell, a type of lyocell, is a sustainable fabric made from wood pulp. It’s known for its softness, breathability, and wrinkle resistance. Tencel garments drape well and are less likely to crease compared to cotton and linen.
Now that we have a good idea of which fabric are less prone to wrinkles, let’s explore how to wash and dry your clothes to maximize wrinkle resistance, and how to store them.
Proper Washing Techniques
Drying Methods
Proper Folding and Hanging
Storage Solutions
Steaming: A handheld steamer is a quick and effective way to remove wrinkles from clothes. It’s gentle on fabrics and can be used on delicate items. This is what I personally use, it’s quick and easy to use. Here is the one I use:
Wrinkle-Release Spray: Use a wrinkle-release spray to smooth out minor wrinkles. Spray lightly and gently tug the fabric to remove creases.
Ironing: For more stubborn wrinkles, a quick iron can do the trick. Unfortunately sometimes it’s the only thing that will work. Use the appropriate heat setting for the fabric and always iron inside out to prevent shine.
Rolling Technique: When packing for travel, roll your clothes instead of folding them to minimize wrinkles.
Packing Cubes: Use packing cubes to organize and compress your clothes, reducing movement and wrinkles in your suitcase.
Unpack Quickly: Upon arrival, unpack your clothes and hang them up as soon as possible to let any wrinkles fall out naturally.
Maintaining a wrinkle-free wardrobe doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By choosing the right fabrics and following these care tips, you can ensure your clothes remain wrinkle-free. Whether you’re heading to a meeting, a conference, or a long day at the office, a wrinkle-free outfit will help you look and feel your best, no matter how busy your schedule is. Invest in quality fabrics, and adopt smart care practices.

This is exactly what I needed to read today. I came back from my recent vaycay and I had to iron a lot. Gabrielle, could you add a link to your favourite products? For example, steamer, packing cubes. It would be great if you were an affiliate 💕
Hi Marlene!
Yes that is a great idea. Thank you for your feedback, I will add some links to the post and will likely send an email about this as well! Hope you have a beautiful day!
